There’s nothing schoolmarmish about this chignon. Braided and placed slightly askew, it’s a modern take on the classic bun.
1/ Start with a low side parting, then gather all of your hair into a side ponytail and secure it with a clear elastic band.
2/ Braid the tail and secure the end with another clear elastic.
3/ Wrap the braid around its base to form a bun, and anchor it to your head with bobby pins. For a secure hold, stab the bun, then slide the pin into the hair along your scalp and hook the pin downward. Use about eight bobby pins around the base of the bun.
4/ Pick a lightweight shine spray such as John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Styling Crème (R95, Clicks or any pharmacy) to smooth down any flyaways (mist your palms with the shine spray, then glide your hands over your hair).
5/ Dress up your bun by adorning it with a few jewelled hairpins placed side by side.
I love this side pony! I have wavy hair (you know the type that doesn't have a nice curl but is far from straight?) and used to spend so much time straightening it in the morning. Never mind the damage all the heat was causing.
But once I tried this side pony I loved it! Its easy to do and looks good even when in smart work clothes. It keeps that edge of fun in formal looks.
Thanks for giving me at least half an hour extra to sleep in in the morning :)
Definitely the side pony tail
