A: High-heels shorten the calf muscle, tightening it and putting you at risk for injuring your ankles, knees and calves, says fitness advisor Carol Espel. And the soreness you feel isn’t the “good” kind that means you’re building muscle – it’s from fatigue.

The Stiletto Stretch
After a day in heels, do this, as soon as they come off, while your muscles are still warm. Stand facing about a foot away from a wall; flex your right foot, keeping your heel on the floor and pressing the bottoms of your toes against the wall. Shift your weight onto the right foot, leaning your body toward the wall. Hold for 15 seconds and then repeat on the other side. You should feel a stretch from your heel to your calf.
