exfoliation advice from the women's health beauty editor
Q: How Often Should I Exfoliate?
Q: I know I must exfoliate my body more but I never know why it's so important and how often I need to scrub my skin. What's my best routine?
A: Try and aim to exfoliate your body skin twice a week. You're doing this so that your body cream can actually penetrate into your skin. In other words you're taking away the layer of debris and dead cells so that your body moisturiser can sink in properly and do its work. While it's easiest to scrub in-shower or at the end of your bath before you rinse off, applying your exfoliator to dry skin will actually give you a deeper, more effective rough skin removing treatment. So, once in a while, swap your wet treatment for a dry one. Very important: Don't take your body scrub up to your face and neck area – it's going to be far too abrasive for this delicate skin. Only use a facial exfoliant and if you're physical scrubbing (in other words using a mechanical exfoliant), scrub very gently.

Hello beauty junkies, I’m Helen, a contributing editor for WH and a beauty journalist – a dream job that I’ve had for the past five years. While I’ve always been make-up obsessed, I’m a naturalist; I love make-up that’s completely wearable rather than make-up that completely wears you. I love to share and will be sharing my best new beauty finds and user-friendly tips with you.

after showering/bathing, apply a baby oil to wet skin. This will give your newly ex foliated skin a nice healthy glow.
