Socks For Spring
Who said socks are just for winter? Maybe those of the chunky variety but we're talking about the new-style socks that are arriving in stores... From patterned to sheer, ankle to knee-high, ribbed to plain, your options are endless, whatever the weather! The key to looking great in socks is pairing them with the right shoes.
We'll start with ankle socks… Probably the easiest sock style to pull off. Try a bright eye-catching pair, worn with platforms under skinny jeans or high-waisted trousers rolled up with a plaid shirt. Or team a demure grey pair with lace-up brogues, cut-off denims or a full skirt and vertical stripes on top.
Knee-high socks are a little trickier. They usually work best when worn with a floral printed dress or skirt. You don't want to look clumpy, so choose very thin sheer socks (a bit like stockings), plain or patterned, and wear them pulled up to your knee with your favourite heels. If you're going for a more boho vibe, push them down and pair with slouchy suede boots.
If you're feeling really brave, you can opt for thigh-high socks. A look we love is to layer them over your tights on cooler spring evenings with an oversized boyfriend cardigan. Or wear the socks on their own with beautifully tailored shorts or a tulip skirt. To avoid the hooker look that can so often happen with thigh-high socks, ensure the rest of your outfit is super laid-back. Stick to safe sock colours such as grey, brown and black and choose flat shoes like plimsolls or brogues. If you insist on a heel go for the new low heel.
All these types of socks can be found at most of your major retailers and specialty stores. Whichever socks you decide to try, remember to do it with confidence. A smile is your best accessory!
