There’s no point in beating around the bush, call it what you will, cellulite is indeed fat. Nothing else. Your long-term enemy that just doesn’t budge.

First things first, diet: It’s a known fact that certain food and drink aid and abet the development of cellulite. Avoid all caffeine, fizzy drinks, buttery croissants and pastry and drink, drink, drink, drink water!

Good circulation is the sworn enemy of cellulite, so, first thing in the morning when your body is sluggish, start with a good body brush all over. Make sure you brush upwards, towards the heart and when you get in the shower (if you can bear it) switch from hot to cold to further encourage a full system wake-up.

Exercise is a must and should be a regular feature in your weekly regime (but then again, we’re talking to the Women’s Health lady, so, enough said).

Also, consider these options:

Short Term:

Slather on a targeted skin treatment which will, by its very nature, encourage circulation and improve the appearance of the skin as it is massaged into the skin.

Try:

RoC Retinol Anti-Cellulite Moisturising Slimming Care (R315), call 086 041 0032 for stockists.
Nivea Goodbye Cellulite (R100), call 086 010 2091 for stockists.

Medium Term:

Avoid fizzy drinks, caffeine, tea and croissants
Drink plenty of water
Skin brushing with a medium bristle brush
Exercise!

Long Term:

Endermologie: A technician runs a vacuum-like suction tube over your skin and follows that with a heavy-duty massaging roller. The bands under the skin are stimulated and stretched temporarily, causing swelling and thickening, which plumps the skin so dimples appear smoother. You’ll need a treatment every eight weeks. Cost: R850 and up per session
