I am dealing with a major wardrobe crisis... I think it might have something to do with the fact that post-Fashion Week, my own wardrobe is looking decidedly dull and oh-so-last season, in comparison to all the wondrous creations walking down the catwalk.

Understand that I have zero patience for fussing, and usually throw on whatever I feel like before running out the door. But alas, no more as I stand reduced to near-tears in front of my cupboard, wailing, 'I have nothing to wear!'

The fact that a, we're in the middle of a recession (yawn), and b I am broke, doesn't help matters much. Reaching out for help, I called my great friend Mari, who also happens to be the fashion stylist on Women's Health, for her top three recession-friendly styling tips:

Clear Out Your Cupboards
The idea that more clothes equal more outfits is just a myth. Rather sort through your cupboard and throw out anything you haven't worn in the past year – donate the clothes to charity as there are people who need them more than you. Clearing out the clutter will make you feel less chaotic, and help you rediscover old favourites that have been hiding, out of reach, for so long.

Borrow From Your Boy
Embrace the boyfriend trend and tuck into his wardrobe for oversized t-shirts that can be worn over skinny jeans and leggings, then head over to grandma's house to borrow her favourite cardigan. Belt it, add some earrings, and you're good to go!

Organise a Clothes Swop
It's Murphy's Law that your best friend has better clothes than you, so the next time she moans how tired she is of her threads, suggest you swop a few key items (like her killer leather jacket you've been eyeing out for ages) for a couple of months.

Good luck! I'm off to make a start on my own cupboard...
