Suffering from make up meltdown in the summer heat? Here’s how to look polished but keep your make up committed to your skin and not doing a runner all down your face.

Make your own tinted moisturizer
If you don’t own a light-feel SPF tinted day cream (this hydrates skin, gives it moderate sun protection and evens out skintone in one application), then simply mix a 10 cent size drop of your regular foundation into your daily facial moisturizer.

Here’s how: swipe a grape-size blob of moisturizer onto the back of your hand (wash your hands before you do this) and then add your drop of foundation.

Mix the two with a clean foundation brush and then either use this brush to apply your tinted moisturizer or blend into your skin with your fingers.

Making the change from a heavy foundation to something lighter in the heat can help your skin to breathe-easy and avoid sticky make up transfer onto your clothes (and his).

Stay-fast your lip colour
Love your lipstick but hate that it fades so quick? Either you can invest in a longwear formula product or just do this: after you’ve applied your lipstick, blot it down with a little baby powder.

Sprinkle a little powder onto the back of your hand, and then gently dab it (bit by bit so your pout doesn’t suffer from powdery overload) onto your lips. You’ll see your lipstick instantly matt down and this will help to give your lippy that bit of extra longevity.

Reach for powder not cream blush
Cream blush does help to give your complexion a healthy glow, but this type of texture shifts easily in the heat.

Instead, use powder blush to add a pop of colour to your cheeks (a slightly shimmery texture can help boost radiance if needs be).

Simply smile, and where your cheeks pop out (the fleshy “apples” of your cheeks) apply your blush, blending it up slightly towards your temples.
