The Benefits of Water Aerobics
Pregnant? Try This Exercise...
It is known that keeping fit while pregnant makes both giving birth and recovery afterwards a lot easier. However, it is often very difficult for women who are pregnant to find exercise that is comfortable, safe and effective. Water aerobics is the perfect answer for this.
Being in the water provides buoyancy and support therefore taking weight off your legs and back making exercise a lot more comfortable. The resistance from the water provides good resistance for strength and flexibility, which in turn allows for better endurance and balance. This will allow for quicker toning and strengthening and it is also low impact, which is ideal for pregnancy where other exercises such as running and weight training are not always safe.
Water aerobics is also a good cardiovascular exercise keeping overall fitness levels up and helps burn calories. Other than these physiological benefits, it's also cool and comfortable for our hot South African climate.
All these advantages above are not only beneficial to those who are pregnant; any one can gain from water aerobics. It is also very beneficial for people with arthritis, for rehabilitation purposes as well as recovery after strenuous training. It is also a good alternative for training if you are bored of your current routine.
Tip: Just remember to hydrate before, during and after your water aerobics session. We tend to forget to do this, as we do not feel as hot as we would while running or cycling.
