I spent the Easter Weekend on a girl’s weekend away to Dullstroom. It was really fun as most weekends away with your girlfriends are. But as soon as one of the girls brought out her Women’s Health magazine so the topic of weight loss, training, and diets arose.

One of the points made was that very often health magazine repeat themselves when it comes to diets and exercise. This is true. Because the principles behind weight loss, exercise and healthy eating are simple if followed correctly.

What you put in = what you put out (exercise) = no weight loss
What you put in > what you put out (exercise) = weight gain
What you put in< what you put out (exercise) = weight loss

So if it’s this simple, why is losing weight and training so difficult? Something we tend to not focus on enough is the psychological side of it all. Essentially I think that if you do not have the right mindset before you start a new program very often you will not succeed and will land up back where you started. There are many cases, too, where weight gain is just a symptom of deeper psychological issues. Overall there are a lot of things we can discuss on this topic and I would like to spend the next few articles looking at this.

But for now, every time you start a new program, start a new training session or are even just thinking about training; think about it positively! Go into that session believing that you are full of the potential to reach your goals! There’s a lot to be said for positive thinking and I firmly believe in its power to change the way we do things! More on this next week…
