Q: I've noticed a little hair growing out of a mole. Is it a sign that it could be unhealthy and is it ok to tweeze?

A: Firstly, resist the urge to tweeze even though you're no doubt having scary visions of it growing longer and therefore more noticeable. Rather clip it, being very careful of course not to nick your mole in the process. Secondly, the good news is that moles that sprout hairs are generally healthy. It's just an irritating phenomenon. If the mole is on your face and you're worried about it being noticeable, then see your dermatologist and discuss your options. Moles can be 'shaved' off but because we’re all concerned about this area of the body and scarring, your derm is the best person to advise you – and if it does need to be removed in full, ask to be referred to a plastic surgeon who will work with your derm so you get the best results possible.
