Q: My feet get very sore when run. I do have trainers that are not worn out. My feet also feels like they burn.

A: There are a couple of reasons this could be happening and I would need to have some more information about where the pain is, when you feel the “burn” most and so on. The burning sensation you are feeling can be due to friction caused by your shoes. If your shoes are too loose or too big there can be friction caused while running.

If your shoes are too tight, there might be a lack of blood supply to the foot, or a slight impingement of a nerve causing the burning sensation. There is a quick solution for this – firstly, loosen or tighten your shoes accordingly. Secondly, you can buy “runner’s socks” which have two layers. This helps prevent friction between your shoe and your foot.

It could also be something slightly more pathological, like neural problems such as Morton’s Neuroma where fibrous tissue forms around the nerve tissue causing pain, numbness and burning sensations. Running mechanics can cause this to become inflamed and symptoms will intensify.

Therefore, if loosening or tightening your shoes and relieving the friction from running does not help with this burning sensation I suggest you see a physiotherapist to help you in this regard.
