Q&A: Will Antiperspirant Give Me Cancer?
What to make of the rumours linking deodorant and cancer
Skipping deodorant might up your stink factor, but it won’t reduce your risk of cancer. In 1999, an email rumour went around that by clogging sweat glands, antiperspirants allow cancer-causing toxins to accumulate in the breasts.
The rumour is nonsense!
“This claim is based on several fallacies that are not consistent with current scientific understanding of breast cancer,” says Ted Gansler of the American Cancer Society. Gansler cited a major 2002 study that found no link between breast cancer risk and antiperspirant or deodorant use.
