A yummy-mummy mobile that will get the entire lift club to school and back without needing a refill.
This highly-efficient 1.6-litre turbo diesel SUV with a six-speed manual gearbox caught our attention for being impressively fuel-friendly – coming in at below five litres per 100km – and low on emissions. The price tag is rather thrifty for a car that’s going to give you over 200mm ground clearance and allow you to go off-road if need be. It’s also fairly tech-savvy with features like a 12V power point, USB port and auxiliary audio, plus voice-activated Bluetooth compatibility. With safety features that include a “survival cell” that dissipates energy in the event of a crash, seven airbags, anti-skid brakes and emergency brake assist, this is the perfect soccer mom car.
Bonus features: Automatic windscreen wipers, chilled cubbyhole, optional glazed panoramic sunroof with UV protection.
Drawbacks: We battled a little with power when stuck in traffic, but on the open road, she flies!
Rating: 8/10. This car is great value for money, easy on the eye and practical if you need a bigger car, but that’s it – no frills besides those wipers.
