Most of these are cardboard-like. Ughhhhh!

Why are you all so negative? they are just trying to give you suggestions. No-one is forcing you to eat any of these things. Make your own healthy choices if you don't want to take any notice of these.

Go slow on Avo - to much of good fats is not that good. Chunky Fat Free "maaskaas" with tomato on Rice Cakes go well or Thins with fishspread. Remember to brush your teeth after the last snack !
By Anonymous on 2010/09/10 - 12:49
Yes, why all so negative? :) Use bovril if you don't like marmite!
Peanut butter is even better.

Mmm Marmite and tomato is a winner.
By Anonymous on 2010/09/10 - 13:20
Those are delicious! For those pessimists look around and don't be so lazy & cut up your own fruit or even go to Fruit & Veg/ Your local veggie shop & they are bound to have those ready mixed nut goodies, put it in a bag & you weigh it- that way you can buy as much as you would like...
PS: Marmite, Mozzarella & tomatoe- YES PLEASE! (on a cheat day add some banana)

I think I will substitute these as evening snacks rather. Great advice though. Fish paste topped with slices of tomato is delicious so give it a try and if marmite is not your thing Bovril is great too. I pack in a tuna salad every day and it’s paid off so far. It’s the dreaded night time that I suffer though, so these snacks sound perfect thanks

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME,,,
I really don't understand this kilojoule thing, how many kilojoules / calories can we have a day to lose weight. I know how to eat healthily etc.... but I am just not sure of how to count my calories. Does 4 rice cakes = 1 slice of bread for instance? I don't want to be a freak and count everything but i just don't understand what that means on the ceral boxes etc...
Pls help anyone.
Tks, Fiona

What about Jelly Babies or Wine Gums?
By Anonymous on 2010/09/17 - 14:55
Hi Fiona,
It depends on your weight and what you do during the day...Kilojules are energy and that means if you get to much kilijules in per day and not training- or you are just sittting then the energy turns around in fat...this is if you consume your daily intake!
So if you know you are not gonna be busy on a day or not training, cut your kilojules and still win with your weight! I personally dont go over 2000 kj a day, but that is my personal figure... Let me know if you need some advice.

Other spreads that can be used, as mentioned are fishpaste, Bovril or fat-free flavoured cottage cheese. Obviously, there are many other toppings, like avo, peanut butter, cheese etc. The idea here is to keep a snack tasty and satisfying but also relatively low in kilojoules, since it is only a snack and will be followed by a meal. If snacks become kilojoule-heavy, total energy (kilojoule) intake for the day can add-up quickly and we ending taking in more than what our bodies need. So, in choosing a topping, go for low-kilojule options, like tomato slices with basil. If your topping of choice is a healthy fat, like avo or peanut butter, only have a little.
Its fine to have jelly babies or wine gums every now and then to satisfy your sweet tooth. But bear in mind that a small packet of jelly babies (75g) has almost 1000kJ (equal to about 10 rice cakes). So if you want to keep the kJ of the snacks similar, have only a few sweeties. You may also find that the wine gums don't really fill the snack gap as well as other food-based snacks.
Hope that helps
