Women in a nine-year study who ate two or more daily servings of cultured milk products, such as yoghurt, were 38 percent less likely to develop the disease than those who ate none. Non-cultured dairy items like milk and cheese had no effect. Lactobacillus, a bacterium present in cultured dairy products, may play a role, says lead study author Dr Alicja Wolk of the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
