Portion-Control Tricks
Kids are told to clean their plates at every meal, so it’s no wonder they grow into adults who feel compelled to finish whatever’s in front of them. Breaking that habit can be next to impossible – but you don’t necessarily have to in order to lose a little extra flab. Switching up your plates, silverware and even centrepieces (we’re serious) can let you polish off every last morsel without having to let out your entire wardrobe. Here's how...
Skip them, or blow them out right after the salad course. When the lighting is dim, people linger over their food more, which can lead to overeating, says Prof Brian Wansink, director of Cornell’s Food and Brand Lab.

This works, very true! Make less or split meals made in two for another time and you will eat less.
i agree with the teaspoon tip...i really find that i eat less that when shoveling big spoon/fork full into my mouth!
For the first time today (in about 2 years) my friend and I decided to share lunch. We were completely honest with ourselves and admitted that it was sufficient, instead of polishing a whole baguette/pizza/salad off ourselves. So long live this new tradition.
Saves us money too!
I have spent years eating so fast because of kids, work and husband that even now when the kids are gone and life is slower I still rush my meals. I've found when I make myself slow down and put my cutlery down a few times I enjoy my meals more and I eat less because I'm much more aware of what I'm eating. Although sometimes I still find myself finishing before everyone else much to my embarrasment.
On the topic of portion control (critical on Weight Watchers for me)…my nutritionist introduced me to a new product which has just come out, but it's hard to find in stores. I ordered it online from www.PortionControl.net since they offer free shipping. It’s definitely a why-didn’t-I-think-of-that product, and it really helps me with daily portion control, while making my cooking easier and tastier. I LOVE THEM. It’s really a nifty idea, and I recommend it if you like cooking at home but are struggling with eating right.
