My ideal weight is 60 for the moment i am weighing 83 now don't you think that 7052 kalories a day is a bit to much if i want to weigh 60... i need a programme to help me on my way to sucess i am getting married in Dec and really want to loose this weight..

I would suggest a low GL (not GI, they are however related) diet. Ditch any "we-get-you-thin-quickly" diet plans/companies/pills etc and go directly to a registered dietitian. Also, start documenting what you eat every day for at least a week. a) It will give the dietitian a good idea of where you "go wrong" / "need improvement" and b) You will think twice before eating non-healthy food (knowing that you have to write it down and face your decisions will be a good encouragement to eat more healthy)

to anonymous who is getting married, try www.tlcforwellbeing.com - i'm on the programme and i have lost 6,2 kg's in 6 weeks. it's just healthy eating.
By PattiLain on 2010/05/11 - 14:26
@Anonymous - Try livestrong.com's Daily Plate tool. You'll have to sign up, but then you enter your height, weight etc, the rate at which you want to lose weight and it adjusts your daily calorie intake accordingly.
It can also track what you've eaten and how much you've exercised, so you know how close you are to your limit.

hey how affective! took my current weight, subtracted approximately 500 kJ (in order to lose some weight). lost some weight, yet I don't feel hungry/food deprived. :)

What is the relationhip between calories and kilojoules?
By JaneH on 2010/05/11 - 20:59
I also found keeping a food journal a good way to monitor what I ate and started losing weight just from that. I didn't like seeing packets of chips and chocolates on every page so stopped eating them. The key is to be brutally honest though in your food journal! And it doesn't take as much time as I thought. Good suggeston
By PattiLain on 2010/05/12 - 06:40
@Anonymous - Calories and kilojoules are both units of energy. I just convert from the one to the other using www.onlineconversion.com

I've taken the eating journal a step further. I have a poster sized page on my bedroom wall where I note everything I've eaten that I shouldnt have....its my 'wall' of shame. I went from having almost a page full of 'cheats' to almost nothing on there in two weeks. This together with my food journal and exercise journal really does the trick.I go online to log these as well but I find that sitting down with myself in a quiet space after the day is done, motivates me much more than an online application. To anonymous getting married, there's a lot of help out there, find what works for you and be patient, you'll fall off the wagon but get back on and push through the pain! Its hard losing weight but its so fullfuling trying on something you havent worn in years and finding that it fits....can you imagine what it will feel like trying on that wedding dress in a size 30 or 32! Good luck to you!

Im 19, and would like to lose about 2-3 kilos to get to my ideal weight as I am a bit short, I live on the residence campus and eat the residence food (which is not the most ideal in terms of health).. I got to aerobics classes 5 times a week, but Ive been stuck at this weight, not losing or gaining any weight.. what can I do??
By Anonymous (not verified) on 2010/11/17 - 09:22
WH mag of May 2010- teke your average number of kj needed, add 1200 to 2000 on days you do an hour fo maderate to intense exercise. Once tou have final number, shave off 2000 to find out how many kj you need to lose half a kilo a week, or 1250 for a kilo a month. DON'T ever go below 5000 a day...
By bride2be on 2010/12/29 - 15:41
thank you so much PattiLain for the website! My fiance and I set our 2011 goals up today and I want to be 55kg by June (from a 62 now)... wish me luck :)

Apparently to lose 500gr to 1kg a week you should decrease your kiljoule intake by 2000 per day
By AliAnt (not verified) on 2011/05/10 - 13:35
I filled in the calculator at the top.
I pretended to weigh only 60 kg which gave me a kj intake of 7650kj.
If I weigh say 70 kg and have to consume 8400 kj but only consume the 7650 kj, will I lose weight?
By Thulile on 2011/05/31 - 19:25
I am not so sure about this KJ calculator. My current weight is 69, height 163 and my ideal weight is 60. It tell me that i need to consume 9082 kj's per day. For somebody that is training to loose weight is that not too much kj's per day???
By Soria (not verified) on 2011/08/25 - 13:35
If I had to consume that amount of kj daily on my ideal weight, I will be over weight in no time.
