We all love a good face mask, be it bubble, clay, sheet or gel-face masks just scream #metime and #glowing. But with the current circumstances, a face mask has taken on a whole new meaning. And given that they aren’t an essential, you can’t order online or head to the spa for a fix. But there’s no need to fret, just head to the kitchen and whip up your own face mask — approved by the skincare experts at SkinPHD Queenswood. These masks will hydrate, brighten and soothe skin, a must after all the quarantine junk food we’ve been eating.

Banana Rama

Bananas are the superstar in this face mask recipe. The silica in bananas can help to increase collagen production, whilst the natural proteins help keep skin hydrated and smooth. They also contain Vitamin A, which can help to restore skins moisture, while honey works to heal cracked and flaky skin.

Method

  • Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste.
  • Add 1/4 cup of plain yoghurt.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of honey.
  • Mix well.
  • Place a warm washcloth over your face for 20 – 30 seconds. This will help open your pores so your skin can soak up the mask.
  • Gently apply the mixture to your face and neck.
  • Leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Rinse off with warm water. Clean any excess off with a clean face cloth.
  • Splash cold water on your face to close up your pores. Pat dry with a soft clean towel.

Not so plain Jane

Plain yoghurt is one of those multivitamin superfoods commonly added to multiple homemade face mask recipes as it promotes beautiful, youthful skin. It’s loaded with an abundance of vitamins which aid in cell growth, has anti-bacterial properties and hydrate the skin. It also contains lactic acid which we know helps to combat free radicals that age your skin. While the addition of oats exfoliant and remove excess sebum and dirt from deep within the skin.

Method

  • 1/4 cup plain unsweetened yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon oats
  • 1 tablespoon honey in a bowl, stir until combined.
  • Place a warm washcloth over your face for 20 – 30 seconds.
  • Apply a thick coat of the mixture to your face with clean fingertips.
  • Set for 10 – 20 minutes.
  • Rinse off with warm water. Clean any excess off with a clean face cloth.
  • Splash cold water on your face to close up your pores. Pat dry with a soft clean towel.
