These Are The Healthiest Ice Creams You Can Eat This Summer

Fussy eater? There’s a flavour for you out there.
Summer: lazy pool days, cocktails and ice cream everywhere. That can also mean an expanding waistline and an overload of sugar that’ll wreak havoc on your skin (and liver). But fear not! We’ve rounded up the healthiest creamy goodness to slap on a cone or just eat right out the tub.
Joburg-based foodie and fitfluencer Cara-Lisa Sham has her own brand of vegan coconut milk ice cream. And yes, it tastes as delicious as it sounds. In four different flavours (peanut butter, cacao, coconut and vanilla cinnamon), they’re all also sugar-free. Plus, her FitFuel range comes with an injection of pea protein (also sugar-free). The home of seriously sinful sweet treats have turned decidedly more virtuous with the addition of sugar-free and vegan flavours. They’ve even got a vegan cookie to sandwich it. Admittedly, the vegan varieties are sorbet (not made with coconut milk) but they work well.
Dairy-free ice cream in truly inventive flavours means ice cream is no longer relegated to chocolate and vanilla. YoCoco has seasonal flavours and are based in Joburg only but they’re worth a mention for the flavours alone: like Golden Milk (turmeric latte, but frozen), Cookies & Rooibos, and Lemon Dream. Swoon.
Their mission? Delicious ice-cream that tastes like the real thing, but happens to be better for you. They’re all dairy-free, sugar-free, and like Caralishious, there’s a protein option made from yellow pea isolate.
