This Natural Juice Has Legit Sex Benefits, According To Science
What does great sex have to do with nutrition, you ask? Well, besides some foods being the perfect aphrodisiacs, it takes healthy arteries, a healthy endothelium (the single layer of cells lining all the arteries of the body) and a heart capable of pumping out increased blood flow to our pelvis to make it all happen. This, as you know, can all be positively influenced by nutrition.
For both men and women, sexual response requires a surge of blood flow through arteries to enlarge specialised tissues (the clinical term for sexual organs) to prepare for sexual play and climax. So no, it’s not just about flowers and champagne – without an increase in blood flow, there’ll be no sexual performance. Uh-oh…
Pomegranate: A Legit Passion Potion
Fear not – there are ways to help things along. In a study, researchers selected 53 men with erectile dysfunction (ED) and had them drink pomegranate juice or a placebo for four weeks. Pomegranate juice has been shown to reverse endothelial dysfunction (the other ED) and cause artery plaques to reverse in humans. When a global improvement score for achieving an erection was measured after four weeks, the drinking of real pomegranate juice was more likely to deliver the goods and lead to erections.
In another study, researchers gave 58 volunteers aged between 21 and 64 a daily glass of pomegranate juice for a fortnight and noted a surge (between 16 and 30%) in the hormone testosterone, which increased sexual desire in both genders. For men this affected traits such as facial hair, a deep voice and greater sexual urges, while in women it raised their sex drive and strengthened bones and muscles. As a side effect, increased testosterone helped raise mood and memory and even relieved stress and dropped blood pressure. Nice.
Endless Health Benefits
The superfood’s ingredients also help fight various forms of cancer, alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis and cure stomach upsets and even conjunctivitis without the ugly side effects of synthetic drugs.
Nutrition is, of course, just one part – albeit the biggest part – of an overall heart-healthy lifestyle. Not smoking, stress reduction, exercising regularly, avoiding diabetes and obesity, and achieving adequate sleep are other proven ways to maintain endothelial health and sexual performance. At the end of the day, there should only be one thing that’s hard… and that shouldn’t be finding a pure, local pomegranate juice. Wink.
