9 Signs You’re Seriously Burnt Out — And How To Fix It

Stress affects us daily. We are supposed to be able to deal with stress and are built for it. Are you aware that a large percentage of all doctor’s visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints?

When you’re stressed, your body takes the hit — and not always in obvious ways. 

A major sign of chronic stress is ongoing physical, mental and emotional exhaustion; even after getting a “good night’s rest” or taking a break. You may find you have difficulty sleeping and/or concentrating and/or switching off. Stress can also cause a lack of interest or desire to engage in activities that previously gave you enjoyment. Many who suffer from chronic stress also notice a change in their appetite (loss or increase). Anxiety levels go from helpful to debilitating; and can include panic attacks and other physical symptoms.

Those who suffer with stress can also have a challenged immune system, which can lead to catching colds and flu more often. As well as stomach and digestion concerns. Other signs of stress include: higher levels of anger and irritability, constantly feeling overwhelmed and increased levels of dissatisfaction.

Ring a bell? Well, luckily for you it’s not all downhill. There are ways to undo your “burnt out” state and have you feeling cool, calm and collected. Here is how you can combat stress:

1/ Breathe

Try breathing deeply a few times to help reduce the feeling of stress…it’s not meditation mambo jumbo.

2/ Take Time Out

Time out is not only for screaming toddlers, everyone needs some downtime. So spend time in nature and leave those screens (TV, phone, computer) alone for a while.

3/ Set A Bedtime Routine

Avoid stimulation before bedtime and stick to a routine so you can secretly tell your body that it is time for bed soon.

4/ Increase Those Happy Hormones

Exercise can help to promote feelings of well-being and calm through the release of endorphins, your “happy” hormones.

5/ Play Some Tunes

Listening to music is great for reducing stress. Everyone has their own taste, so listen to the music that makes you feel relaxed and happy!

6/ Speak Up

Talking is great for reducing stress so reach out to those close to you and share your fears, worries and ask for help in getting things done.
