2 Easy Homemade Breakfasts That’ll Power Up Your Morning

Chocolate And Banana Smoothie
You might think a smoothie is a smoothie. If you do, well…you’re wrong. This smoothie is a miracle in a glass. It can sort you out as a snack but can be enough for a quick breakfast too. It can get you ready for a night out but more importantly it can save you the morning after a night out. A lot of people swear the breakfast of champions is a fry up with eggs, bacon, sausages etc. Not me. I prefer to keep it healthy with this combination that provides your body with everything it needs. And it takes seconds to make.
Stuff you’ll need to make two smoothies:
300g of plain yoghurt
A handful of raw oats
A handful of raw cacao nibs (available from health shops)
A good squeeze of honey
Half a glass of milk
A teaspoon of flaxseed
Two bananas, peeled and sliced.
A handful of mint, finely chopped
Okay, what to do:
1. Ummm…seriously. You want to know what to do? Okay. Put everything except the mint in a blender. And blend it.
2. Pour into a glass and garnish with the mint.
The health benefits of cacao are phenomenal and well documented. Packed with vitamins and loaded with antioxidants it takes its place firmly among other superfoods. Served like this it will set you up for the day. Trust me.
Homemade Bircher Muesli
Bircher muesli. I love it and if I love it so should you. On the taste: health ratio it is almost unbeatable. You will honestly struggle to get a breakfast this healthy that tastes this good. It is ridiculously easy to make and you can tweak it to add your favourite ingredients. Here is my version, using stawberries when they’re in season.
Okay, stuff you’ll need to feed four:
220g of raw oats
400ml of fat-free milk
A cinnamon quill, broken (otherwise two teaspoons of cinnamon)
Fat-free yoghurt, to serve
Organic honey, to serve
A few strawberries, to serve
Okay, what to do:
1. Add the cinnamon to the oats and add the milk. Soak overnight in the fridge.
2. In the morning, divide the oats betwen four bowls (use a bit of the cinnamon-infused milk too). Discard the quill if using. Grate the apples and slice the strawberries.
3. To serve, top the oats with the yoghurt and add the apple and the strawberries. Finish by drizzling over some honey.
How easy was that?
