Here’s a convenient way to boost your health and get all those nutrients first thing in the morning: vegetable smoothies recipes using McCain frozen vegetables, just like Takkies!

Why smoothies?

Smoothies – the perfect quick and healthy meal for a busy mom and entrepreneur like Takkies. Brekky on the go? Tick. Post-workout snack? Yassss. Quick lunch? Easy! But are your smoothies working hard enough for you? Are they providing you with all the nutrients you need? The ideal smoothie recipes combine a mix of nutrients, vitamins, protein, fibre, hydration and yum factor! If you only use fruit, your sugar intake will be too high, so we always recommend making your smoothies work harder for you by adding vegetables.

Add spinach!

One of our fave veggies to add to smoothies is spinach and we love the convenience of having McCain Garden Spinach in our freezers, ready to use at a moment’s notice. Spinach is low in fat, high in good-for-you fibre (which helps aid digestion) and it contains iron, which helps boost energy and keep your blood and heart healthy. Add half a cup of McCain Garden Spinach to your next smoothie for an awesome healthy boost.

Here’s why McCain frozen veggies are so great…

  • Top-quality farm-fresh ingredients are prepped and immediately frozen, locking in all those essential nutrients. Super nutritious!
  • There’s zero waste as you only use what you need (and put the rest back for later).
  •  The vegetables are easy to portion out as they’re available in chunks.
  •  Using frozen veggies in your smoothies makes them extra creamy!

The Detoxifying Smoothie

— ½ cup McCain Garden Spinach
— ½ cup McCain Baby Peas
— 200ml apple juice
— 10 fresh mint leaves
— 1 cup chopped cucumber
— Squeeze fresh lime juice
— Ice (optional)

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth. Garnish with fresh mint and cucumber.

Top tip: Takkies adds McCain Baby Peas to her smoothie for extra fibre and protein.

Get Your Glow On Smoothie

— 1 cup McCain Garden Spinach
— 1 banana
— 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
— ½ avocado
— 150 coconut water

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth.

Top tip: The combination of spinach (vitamin A), avocado (healthy good-for-you fats) and pumpkin seeds (which contain magnesium for improved mood and sleep, and manganese, which plays a role in collagen production and promotes skin health), means you get all the nutrients you need for a healthy, glowing skin.

Dreaming Of Summer Smoothie

— 1/3 cup McCain Garden Spinach
— 1/2 cup McCain Green Beans
— 1 tbsp sunflower seeds
— 2/3 cup cubed fresh pineapple
— 200ml coconut water

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth.

Top tip: When bulking up your smoothie with extra veggies, add some fruit to create balance in taste and texture instead of other sweeteners. Pineapple is a nutritious and sweet-sour fruit that works well here. You can also try melon or mango instead.
